Wisconsin to House an NIH-Sponsored Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Biology of Aging

We are excited to announce that the University of Wisconsin–Madison has been selected to house a prestigious Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging, supported by the National Institute on Aging (NIH).

This designation places UW–Madison among a select group of institutions leading the nation in foundational research on the biology of aging.

The Nathan Shock Centers provide leadership in advancing basic research into the biology of aging. Each Center includes:

  • Research Development Core, which administers small start-up funds locally and organizes national annual meetings to highlight specific areas of research
  • Several specialized research cores, tailored to the strengths of each institution, which offer services to support aging biology research

At UW–Madison, the Center will focus on the metabolism of aging, a rapidly growing field with significant implications for understanding health span and longevity.

Dr. John Denu, Dr. Roz Anderson, and Dr. Dudley Lamming will co-direct the Center.
